One Prop Trader a Day – Episode 139

Óscar Daniel Vélez Osorio
Óscar Daniel Vélez Osorio is a 37-year-old Colombian trader living in Santiago de Chile, a computer systems administration technician with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, who trades only gold (XAU/USD). He got his first funded account in November 2024, has traded challenges with FundedNext and Top One Trader, and looks for low-cost challenges with rules that are not too strict. Here is his story, in his own words.
What does it take to get a 5,000 dollar payout out of a 44 dollar account, and what happens when the same approach liquidates every entry? Óscar Daniel Vélez Osorio, a 37-year-old Colombian trader living in Santiago de Chile, trades only gold (XAU/USD), got his first funded account with FundedNext in November 2024, and looks for low-cost challenges with rules that are not too strict. In this interview, he explains how he looks for cyclic logarithmic structures of price, why overtrading after a liquidation was his hardest lesson, what he would do differently, and why he sees the third challenge as only the beginning.
My name is Oscar Daniel Velez Osorio, I am 37 years old, I am Colombian but I currently live in Santiago de Chile, I am a computer systems administration technician and have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, I was in the education field and before that in many other jobs, in order to achieve financial independence I decided to get involved in trading and that is how I came to trade the gold/dollar asset XAU/USD which is the only one I trade.
My first account as a funded trader was in November 2024, at that moment I realized that obtaining a funded account is possible, the difficult part is maintaining them and knowing how to manage them, then I obtained three more with the same funding company FundedNext.
The first purchases I made with the money obtained in the market were to buy funding accounts of higher value than the ones I was used to.
I have failed many times both funding accounts and real capital, so many that I lost count, what inspires me is seeing how there are people who are achieving it with effort and discipline and we are all in the same conditions facing the market, you have to improve in the learning curve and then along with experience and all the mistakes learned be able to manage capital from funding companies.
The hardest lesson so far has been losing 12,500 dollars with a deposit of 33 dollars.
Trading affects the psyche and emotions, it is normal since when it comes to money nobody wants to lose it, what I do is accept losses as well as gains according to my plan and the decisions I make whether they are good or bad.
I have traded with several but especially with FundedNext and Top One Trader, I look for low-cost challenges and that the rules are not so strict.
My trading style depends on what I see on the chart, they can be intraday or swing trades, I use all timeframes to analyze since each time frame shows different data, my approach is based on letting trades run looking for cyclic logarithmic structures of price.
My trading day can be in the New York or Asia session, I see where the price is located, I measure the cyclic structures, I calculate the logarithmic point, I look for liquidity in the timeframes, I wait for the candle engulfing and I enter the market.
I made multiple entries with the entire margin of the account after the market takes liquidity and finds the Algorithmic efficiency of the market cycle, from there the compound interest increases along with the Lotage in other entries I was making, I let it run to the profit point I had calculated but the price does not reach it and it turns back liquidating all my entries and for wanting to recover I over-traded and over-lotted the account. What I would do differently is take the profits after the first close of one of the entries and if the trading exceeds a margin of more than 1000% in profits consider myself well served and not split hairs.
The biggest payout I have received has been 5,000 dollars with 44 dollars, I try to do flips of accounts with low capital making cascade entries following the order flow of the trend scaling the invested capital.
My family is very important to me, they have always supported me, what I do is for them and for them, although I have not told them about my progress since it has not been substantial, nor epic.
Basically that the third challenge is only the beginning and not the end, since the mind is not used to managing money in this way and obviously everything that involves trading analysis, trading, management requires a lot of practice and experience.
It is necessary to calculate the margin of the account according to the set trading plan and thus have good management, I would make multiple entries with low lotage and a wide profit margin until I get to know the account.
The funding companies with which I have traded challenges have been FundedNext, Top One Trader and in competitions in companies such as Fxfy, Audacity, Rebels Funding. These companies offer low-cost challenges and tournaments that allow you to learn to trade, analyze, administer and manage trading accounts.
