News blackout window

By Omer Rapaport · Content updated 11 September 2026

What does News blackout window mean?

A news blackout window is a restricted period around a specified economic announcement during which certain trading actions are prohibited. The affected instruments and account stages depend on the provider.

Example

A provider restricts opening or closing an affected instrument shortly before and after a selected announcement.

Illustrative example; not a provider’s quoted offer.

Why it matters for prop traders

A pending order or stop triggered inside the window may count as an execution. Use the provider’s event calendar and time zone.
